SUNDAY FUNDAY AT THE MARKETS

The tour de Hong Kong continued with my mom. Last Sunday, we took her out for dim sum, where she really enjoyed the puff pastries with barbeque pork and sesame.

After brunch, we headed to the ferry terminal to take the Star Ferry from Wan Chai to TST. The last time my mom was on the Star Ferry, she was pregnant with me! So, she said she had "already done this trip with me" in the past:)

Once on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, we headed to Mongkok to meet M's Aunt and Uncle, our tourguides for the day.

Mongkok literally means "busy corner" in Cantonese, and busy is an understatement. According to the Guinness Book of Records, Mongkok is the most densely populated place on the planet, and I believe it. Famous for its "ladies market", it sells a little bit of everything, and the prices are all negotiable. M's Aunt recommends starting at 25% of the asking price!

After the ladies market, we headed to the flower market. The highlights were the beautiful lotus flowers and venus flytraps (the Carnivorous plants)!

After the Flower Market, we visited Yuen Po Street Bird Market, our last stop on the market tour. I hadn't been there in years and forgotten what a cool experience it is to see all of the birds and amazing bird cages.

By the time we finished up at the bird market, we were tired, hot and needed a rest. So we took my mom to Yee Shun Milk Company, where we enjoyed a cool bowl of chocolate milk pudding. It was a great way to end an adventurous day.

Thank you to M's gracious Aunt and Uncle who gave us a wonderful tour of the Mongkok markets!
